Cold & Windy This Morning

Porcupine above was sound asleep without a care in the world.

Settled in early this morning watching the iced cove above. Thought for sure a coyote would come wandering by..

Not Much Going On This Morning

Chilly this morning ! I watched dawn set in scanning the ice for any movement.  Other then a distant crow it was QUIET.
The trail cameras were also pretty slow this week. One mature Bobcat & Coyote night picture and two small does during the day.
I moved the cameras, we'll see what next week brings.

Looking forward to my up coming presentation at the Quabbin Visitor Center.  Presentation is just about done. Any luck , I hope to add a few new pics

TC's & Spectacilar Sunrise

I set out a second TC last week in the same spot as the first one.  My thought was to set one on video and the other on picture. It worked out pretty good. Was able to get a short video of the coyote on the cover page.
Saturday morning I was in the right place at the right time to catch dawn setting in. The sky was on Fire ! and reflecting on the ice .

Water Flowing

Its been many months since seeing water flowing over this beaver dam ! Granted it's not raging but its  a start with increasing the reservoir water level.

I hiked six miles this morning in hopes of finding a moose shed.  Well. that didn't work out so well :(
Walking the swamps edge I did see five deer. They looked very healthy.

Slim Pickins' Today

Coyote in the picture above was taken a few weeks ago while watching a deer carcass.

The mild temps ( mid 40's) this morning made for a foggy hike.  I was able to set another trail camera out . Temps next week will be in the mid thirties, With little snow the critters will be on the move.
I wouldn't be surprised by next weekend if many of the iced over coves are open water.

Also will enjoy meeting and talking with folks from my blog community.

Till then....
Happy Hiking
Jim

Spent the last two mornings settling in before dawn in hopes of catching a pic of a coyote wandering the shoreline. No critter activity at all. Sure was a nice sunrise though !
I also hiked into a remote area  to check on a trail camera. The TC recorded a short video of a bobcat during the day. I'll share it after I get a few more winter clips.

Nothing But Skin & Bones / 2016 TC Highlights

I went back this morning to check and see what evidence might be left of the deer carcass from last Saturday .  I was surprised to find the bones and skin still sitting on a sandbar. I figured there would be nothing left.

There were tracks from coyotes and one bobcat leading from the shoreline to the sandbar.
